APRI is important to me because it stands for an organization of ideas and principals very similar to my own aspirations and a positive force in the community.  I look forward to the opportunity of mentoring and assisting our youth, who are the most important part in the development of our community.

In 1990, I became a member of IBEW local 76 as an Electrician. Forced to retire in 2003, I am still very active in the union, “Brotherhood Committee” and became a Shop Steward for the majority of my journeyman career. In addition, I became a senior counselor thru the union counselor training program and actively assist in aiding our members in stress.

I've always been an avid voter registration advocate and happy to assist on a year round basis. I have manned the Democratic Booth at the Puyallup Fair for many years.  The idea of promoting, "working for livable wages" is important to me, because luckily, I am a member who has benefited from a great union organization. Had I not been a union member when I became ill and could no longer work, I fear to think what type of situation my family and I would be in this very day. Fortunately, due to my union membership I was able to retire and continue to live with dignity and respect. Due to the course of events in my life I feel A.P.R.I. is just the right fit for me as a person and truly honored to serve with a group of dedicated citizens who have the same common goals in mind.

Patty Rose was elected Secretary Treasure of the Pierce County Central Labor Council in the summer of 2002 and took office July 1st.

Prior to coming to the Labor Council, Patty worked for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) for 27 years. For much of that time, she was the office manager and bookkeeper for the Tacoma Local. In 1994 with the merger of the Tacoma and Seattle locals, Patty became a union representative of SEIU Local 6, representing approximately 1,500 union members in 3 counties. She negotiated contracts, handled grievances, conducted shop steward training, facilitated Labor/Management committee meetings and organized new workers to become union members.

“My entire adult life has been spent fighting for worker’s rights and promotion social justice. I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’m honored that union members in Pierce County have elected me as their secretary treasurer.”

In addition to her work as Secretary Treasurer of the Pierce County Labor Council, Patty also serves on the following Boards and Committees:

  • United Way of Pierce County – Board of Directors
  • Pierce County Aids Foundation – Board of Directors
  • Economic Development Board – Board of Directors
